Through the University’s Better Teaching, Better Learning agenda, and the Faculty’s unit enhancement project, we challenge our educators to transform their approach to teaching and learning with innovative curriculum design, blended modes of delivery and a diversity of assessment.
“Learning is constructed by what activities the students carry out; learning is about what they do, not about what we teachers do. Likewise, assessment is about how well they achieve the intended outcomes, not about how well they report back to us what we have told them.” (Biggs, 2013)

This section provides and overview of active learning with a particular emphasis on techniques already being employed by Arts Faculty academics to foster student engagement. Areas covered include experiential learning, problem based learning and in-class polling.

The Portfolio contains examples of assessment for preparation (diagnostic assessment), for learning (formative assessment) and for the demonstration of learning (summative assessment). There is more information about different types of assessment on the Assessment page.
